She was considered to be of Japanese, Swiss, Native American, and African heritage; she acknowledges her ethnic backgrounds and considers herself Afro-Brazilian.She was Brazilian model and actress who was best known as a Victoria’s Secret Angel since end 1999, and as a spokes model for Maybelline cosmetics from 2003 to 2009. At the age of 15, she had finished first in Ford’s Supermodel of Brazil competition, and had taken second place the following year in the Ford Supermodel of the World competition.
